The Story of Margo Utomo
In the heart of Kalibaru, Banyuwangi, a legacy was born in 1943 when the late Mr. H.R.M. Moestadjab inherited a fertile land from his father. Coconut, nutmeg, coffee, pepper, and cloves flourished here, alongside a small dairy farm — the only source of fresh, nutritious food in the region at that time.
When plantation prices fell in 1975, a new vision emerged: agro-tourism — blending the beauty of rural life with the richness of a plantation. From welcoming guests into his home, Margo Utomo Eco Resort grew, offering 51 rooms and carrying its Javanese name meaning Main Gate, a symbol of hope that Kalibaru would become the gateway to Banyuwangi tourism.
In 1994, Margo Utomo Hill View Resort opened just 3 km away, offering serene views of a hill and river, and giving guests the chance to explore Margo Utomo Plantation and discover the secrets of local spices.
Today, his daughter Endang Mariana carries on the legacy, expanding the dairy farm — now known as Melk Bron — to over 100 cows, producing fresh milk and mozzarella for Bali, Banyuwangi, and Yogyakarta.
Margo Utomo is more than a resort. It’s a living story of land, nature, and family — welcoming you to experience the timeless charm of Kalibaru.
